"Synchronise your iCal To Do list with the iPhone" :: [2010-08-04 07:54PM]
                                                     author: Jeremy Malcolm

Apple does not provide a To Do list application on the iPhone, and none of
the third-party applications that exist (to my knowledge) sync with the
native To Do list in iCal.app on Mac OS X (also accessible through
Mail.app).

However, there is a way to at least view your To Do list on your iPhone.
The only pre-requisite for this is an IMAP mail account. By default, your
To Do list will be stored locally; that is, as Mail.app and iCal put it,
"On my Mac". To view it on your iPhone, you want it to be stored on your
IMAP account instead.

To accomplish this, you need to create a new calendar on the IMAP account.
To do this, go into Mail.app and expand "To Do" to show all your
accounts. Right-click on the IMAP account and select "New Calendar". An
alternative approach is to drag To Do items from "On My Mac" into the IMAP
account, which will prompt you to create a new calendar there.

You can now create To Do list items in the new list you've just created in
Mail.app. Alternatively, go into iCal.app and select the new calendar
stored on your IMAP server (which will have magically appeared in the
sidebar), and create them there.

To access the To Do list on your iPhone, go into Mail.app on the iPhone
and enter the "Apple Mail To Do" folder. Your To Do items are listed
there, mis-formatted as if they were emails.

I am not aware of any way to create To Do items on the iPhone, however.
You can create a new mail message and move it into the "Apple Mail To Do"
folder, but it does not synchronise with Mac OS X. For now, this is a
read-only solution.

                                                         reply (0 comments)
